HISTORY
Funded by the Hagan Family Fund, The Baltimore Gallery & Museum Guide (BGMG) is a project of Maryland Art Place (MAP), the Greater Baltimore Cultural Alliance (GBCA) and Full Circle Fine Art Services intended to survey Baltimore’s rich, cultural visual arts landscape with the goal of making it easier to find and access galleries and museums for visitors and residents alike.
The BGMG's aim is to:
· Increase accessibility for patrons of the arts
· Increase traffic at galleries and museums
· Create a promotional product that considers the needs of the aging
· Create a map that considers the needs of those without access to the internet
· Highlight Baltimore’s incredible visual arts ecosystem to those traveling to and visiting the city
THE PILOT: Between the summer of 2023 and early Spring 2024, the collective team, along with neighboring organizations and colleagues, came together to discuss the often-siloed nature of the Baltimore arts ecosystem. Collectively the group set out to create both a physical and corresponding digital Baltimore Gallery & Museum Guide (BGMG). In 2024 a pilot guide was distributed.
The pilot BGMG was made possible through our generous supporters Alvin and Louise Family Foundation, recommended by Wendy Jachman and Jeffrey Scherr; Suzi Cordish; Bmoreart - Baltimore's Art and Culture Magazine and Visit Baltimore.
The final version of the physical/hand-held Gallery & Museum Guide is tentatively scheduled to launch Spring, 2027.
Geography: The BGMG includes all of Baltimore City and arts programs at the surrounding county-based universities.
