Santa Fe

The Carl Ortman Gallery is a single-artist space on Canyon Road dedicated entirely to Carl's large-scale Impressionist oil paintings. In a district known for its breadth, we offer something different: one painter's sustained vision, given room to breathe.

Carl has spent decades chasing light — across the high desert of New Mexico, Colorado, Maryland, New York, the streets of Italy and London, the docks of New Orleans, and far beyond. His paintings are made the way the Impressionists always intended: directly, urgently, in response to the world as it actually appears.

Come in. The work is on the walls, and Carl is often here.

Salida

The Ortman Gallery has been part of downtown Salida for eighteen years — long enough to have watched this town grow into one of Colorado's most vital creative communities, and to have had a hand in it.

This is where Carl comes to paint. Not to perform, not to impress — just to work. Salida's light, its mountains, and its no-nonsense creative energy have fed his Impressionist oils for nearly two decades, and the gallery reflects that: straightforward, unpretentious, full of paintings made in the places you can see right outside the door. Come in, look around, and if Carl's here, pull up a chair.
