Estopia is a contemporary art gallery with an international exhibition agenda.
Founded with a strong focus on Eastern Europe, Turkey, the Balkans, and the Middle East, Estopia has progressively expanded its program to include a broader and more geographically diverse roster of artists, while maintaining a research-driven and dialogical approach to contemporary art. The gallery presents a global contemporary art narrative spanning cutting-edge visual projects and creative practices expressed through painting, sculpture, photography, installation, video, and new media. Established in 2009 as D’Ancona Budis Art Gallery, the space was renamed Estopia in 2019, with the addition of Edwin Hughes Scorretti to the artistic directorship of the gallery. Focusing on both scouting and providing new opportunities for young and emerging artists, Estopia aims to bring to the foreground the most up-to-date artistic discourses emerging from these regions, while fostering new perspectives on art investment and cultural value within a broader international context.
With over a decade of activity, Claudio Scorretti and Irina Ungureanu, the two founders of the gallery, have carried out over 50 solo and group exhibitions featuring Romanian and international artists, published catalogues, and organized conferences. Their work has contributed to a thorough analysis and in-depth knowledge of contemporary artistic practices in East Europe and the Middle East. Over the past ten years, they have reviewed more than 8,000 artist portfolios, mapped approximately 3,000 artists, and published 16 catalogues as part of the global project Imago Mundi – Luciano Benetton Collection.
