Founded by Joanne Abbensetts in 2025, Takoradi Global Arts is a contemporary art collection, nomadic gallery and cultural platform focused on artists from Africa and its global diaspora.

Takoradi champions distinctive contemporary practices from across Africa, alongside African artists working internationally. Its programme brings together artists with strong individual voices, compelling ideas and work that reflects the breadth, complexity and ambition of contemporary African expression.

Through curated exhibitions, pop-ups, collaborations, private sales and digital platforms, Takoradi creates opportunities for artists to be seen, collected and experienced in new contexts. It connects artists with collectors, institutions and audiences while building meaningful pathways into the international art world.

At its heart is a commitment to discovery, visibility and exchange — presenting contemporary African art with confidence, context and a global perspective.

ABOUT THE FOUNDER

Joanne Abbensetts

Joanne Abbensetts is the Founder and Director of Takoradi Global Arts and a longstanding collector of contemporary African art. Born in Takoradi, Ghana and raised in Jamaica, she has spent more than two decades developing a collection shaped by close attention to artistic practice, material intelligence and the evolving conversations surrounding African and diasporic art.

Her perspective is informed by sustained engagement with artists and by a commitment to identifying work of depth, originality and lasting significance.

Through Takoradi Global Arts, Joanne brings that experience into a public platform dedicated to exhibitions, collecting and exchange, with a focus on expanding how contemporary African and diasporic art is seen, understood and collected across Africa, Canada and the wider diaspora.
