COMPLEX TOPOGRAPHIES

In 2004, I received a wonderful gift from Kathy Markel, owner of Markel Fine Arts in New York. It was an opportunity to do a week-long residency, working alongside David Salgado founder and Master Printer at Trillium Graphics in Brisbane, California.

I spent an exciting week experimenting with ideas and working with David delving into the Uncertainty Principle which loosely states when an object is viewed up close, it becomes harder to infer its bigger picture and vice versa: the closer you are to something the more difficult it is to contextualize, while the further away, the easier it is to lose sight of minute details (macroscopically and microscopically).

The inspiration for this body of work comes from my lifelong study of music as well as my love of nature.

This collaborative body of 18 monoprints, a print with a matrix, was created during my time spent at Trillium has never been shown before so I’m excited to show them at Carmel Modern. - Tracey Adams (2025)
