Ann has been painting and exhibiting her watercolors for twenty years, challenged by both the delicacy and power of the medium. Although her interest began during her graduate studies at Lesley and the Art Institute of Boston, she’s mostly self-taught through reading and experimentation. Ever the learner, she takes workshops (notably with Keiko Tanabe, Frank Eber, Alvaro Castagnet and Don Andrews), attends demos, and participates in figure study groups. She is a member of the New England Watercolor Society, the Newburyport Art Association (Master Artist), the Greater Haverhill Arts Association (President), , and NH Plein Air Artists. Her paintings have been juried into countless regional shows and received numerous awards; they are in private collections here and abroad.

Landscapes are the subject of choice. She enjoys working en plein air whenever possible, savoring the luminosity of the landscape and struggling to capture the light before it (all too quickly) changes. Among her favorite locations for sketching and painting are the Merrimack Valley, the North Shore, and the Atlantic seacoast. Painting favorite places enables her to see them fresh and appreciate them anew. She likes to remember her travels in watercolor as well, and has painted in England, Nova Scotia, Southeast Asia, and Egypt. During the winter months when working on location is difficult, her focus is on interiors, figures and still lifes. Inspiration is everywhere, especially in the work of John Singer Sargent, Winslow Homer, Andrew Wyeth, and contemporaries Paul W. McCormack, Don Andrews, Jeanne Dobie, and Keiko Tanabe.
