Betty’s journey as an artist began soon after moving to Charleston in 1972, where she found inspiration in the city’s thriving creative community. Selling her first painting for just $15 in 1976, she quickly became immersed in the evolving artistic landscape, refining her style alongside other emerging artists.
Her triplets each bring a unique perspective to the family legacy. Jennifer Smith Rogers, with a background in architecture from Clemson University, creates striking oil paintings that highlight the interplay between structures and sky. Shannon Smith Hughes, also working in oils, masterfully captures the effects of light in her compositions. Meanwhile, Tripp Smith translates the beauty of the Lowcountry into breathtaking fine art photography.

Anglin Smith Fine Art was yet another inspired vision brought to life by Betty Anglin Smith. After a solo exhibition in Carmel, California, she returned to Charleston with the dream of creating a family gallery. That dream took shape upon discovering a hidden gem in the historic French Quarter—a 200-year-old building with cypress walls and stone floors. The space was perfect, and in November 2000, Anglin Smith Fine Art opened its doors, quickly becoming a beloved part of Charleston’s thriving art scene.
Visitors to the gallery are welcomed into a carefully curated collection that reflects the beauty of the Lowcountry and beyond. The gallery showcases an array of oil paintings, including evocative landscapes, still lifes, city scenes, and abstracts, each created by members of the Smith family or artists within their close circle of friends.
